HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO EVERYONE!! I visited the run this morning and this weekends early snowstorm seems to have left the run with very wet conditions once again. There are some puddles, and the path is muddy, but the trees seem to have held up nicely. The request for wood chips has already been sent. Parks Dept. will be busy cleaning up trees that came down this weekend, so we will have to be patient. Thanks everyone! See ya soon!! Lisa/Nala

Good Morning!! I attended the annual Partnership for Parks Volunteer Dinner last night and met with both the Borough Commissioner -Adena Long and Commissioner Benope of the Parks Department- as well as our liason/volunteer coordinator Frank Filatro. The event was both informative and enjoyable. The parks department is hoping to see our group revitalized in hopes of building a better dog park. With the participation of our members and a new board of directors the future of the dog park has never been brighter. Thank you to the nominees who are interested in running for office. Looking forward to seeing you on the 16th!! P.S. Wood chips should be delivered next week. I ask that you please help in spreading them if you can. Thanks!

Hello WPP!

Im happy to see that the Wolfes Pond Pooches is still going strong! I was going through some old files and stumbled on some old WPP stuff and figured Id do a search! Its great that you guys are a 501C3 org and taking care of what I always thought was a great little pocket of fun for our dogs and community. Once again all my best to the dogs and owners of the WPP!

Hello to you too Matt!! Yes, WPP has come a long way! I would like to thank you, Dan, Sara, Ann Marie and all the others who started it all. Thank you so much. The dog park is a really great place for dogs and thier owners as well. I have just recently passed my responsibilities as Vice-President (for the past 3 1/2 years) to a new board of directors. Together with help of the NYC Parks Dept., we are hoping to build a new dog park. The plans are on the table at the moment! Be sure and stay tuned!! And by all means, please stop by. We would love to see you and Reggie, Dutchess, and Molly!!! :) Lisa/Nala

Great article in the SI Advance today (1-3-12). I am so pleased that WPP is in good, capable hands. When Matt Auslander, Karen Gilmartin, myself & others founded WPP many years ago, we worked hard to start a strong foundation for a sustainable volunteer group. We held countless meetings at Blue Heron Park, spent our own money on coffee & donuts & educational materials, met up with fence contractors early mornings on weekends, held countless fundraisers, and met with city officials both locally and in NYC. Our goal was to make a great dog park that would be clean, safe and fun for dogs & owners.
Again, I am more than thrilled that the current WPP volunteers are doing such an amazing job.
I was a bit surprised and disappointed that none of the original members were mentioned in the Advance article, though. Historically, when organizations are highlighted, the founders and originating principles are often referenced. I realize space is an issue in our local paper.

I wish this group all the best. And hello & thanks to Matt and my old members!!

Best,
Sara & Oxford

Sara, I have to agree with you here. This group has been working hard for a number of years now. I think 7 years ago the very first board of directors began this group with a vision of making it something really great. We should never forget how far this group has come. It started because people shared a common interest. Socializing their dogs. I am personally thankful for Matt, Annmarie, Karen, Dan, You, Michelle, and everyone who stepped up to be an officer in this group. Ed, Mike, Gus, and I, and now Julie, Tosh, John, and Gus continue this. It really is inspiring to see the group moving forward. Thank you to everyone who participated, and those who continue to do so. We cannot forget, ALL the work that is done to keep this group going is done by VOLUNTEERS. Time is the most valuable thing we possess in this life. We should be very appreciative of the individuals who chose to spend their time for the benefit of so many dogs and their owners. To the new board members....I thank you!!! Please keep it going!! It would be a shame to see the dog park closed because the group didn't work together!

Hello Everybody!
I just wanted to say hello. I have read a few blogs reguarding the articles in the Advance. I was contacted by those reporters on both occasions for information ( they had my number in a file from the Santa pics event ). The questions asked were specific, all reguarding what we as volunteers do to or with the run and what we go there for. If you were to know me you would know I'm all for volunteering. I have said in the past we should thank all who were involved in the begining of this dog run. I'm not posting this to sart any conflict, but to make sure those who were not mentioned in the article aren't offended. I'm greatful for all your hard work and time. And my only wish is to keep up your momentum in going forward and making this park a wonderful place for our dogs and those who follow. I also didn't mention anyone because I wasn't aware of the history of the park or the original volunteers. I do appoligize if anyone was offended, I did not intended to do that. I am now the President of WPP and John Stassi is the Vice President. If there is anything I can do better please do not hesitate to let me know. I'm in it to carry on what you've already put in place and to keep it going. And with the help of others we can make this a wonderful run. Have a great day....

Scrappy and I wanted to thank Doreen and Zeus & Athena, also Mia the boxer and her mommy and also Rocky and his mommy. Scrappy is healing up, his eye lid and socket swelled with a few cuts but his eyeball was fine, all swelling is now gone and just the cuts need to heal. He's trying to not be so clumsy but being a puppy, that's still hard for him. He cant wait to come back to the park it will just be a few more days of rest and hopefully we will have nice weather. Scrappy cant wait to play with Rocky, Mia and Zeus & Athena again. I appreciate all the kind support and encouragement from everyone I've met down at the park. Thank you All

Hello again Dawn and Scrappy, Im so glad his eye is doing better, was a pretty good hit. Lots of pups and dogs alike get a bump and bruise every now and then. Being a puppy is a funny uncooridinated life ( atleast I think so watching Zeus grow up,lol ) . He is bound to do it a few times while he's there. It was very nice meeting you too I'm glad you've found the park to be a pleasant place for scrappy to grow and play with others. We are a good group of people and want only the best for all our furry kids. Hope to see you soon!

Also just wanted to let all know. The Parks Deptartment just dropped off two loads of fresh wood chips last week. I would like to thank those who helped spread them out. And the Parks moved the tables into the small dog run so they can potentially paint them. They had great intentions but are overwhelmed with tasks. I spoke to our Outreach coordinator Stephanie Gutierrez and she will be getting the supplies for us to do it. It saves us alot of money in paint and brushes and is a big help. I'm going to get some sanding blocks and hit those tables for this weekends painting. Please be patient while this process will take another several days. Thank You.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! To the WPP Board and it's members for seeing this project through!!! I can't wait to see our new dog park! It has taken so many years of hard work, determination and numerous board members to achieve this new park for everyone to enjoy!! It is a wonderful accomplishment! WPP Dog Park Volunteer Group and NYC Parks Department have worked long and hard for this and I want to thank EVERYONE who was involved!! From the current administration, President Doreen Lindstrom and Vice-President John Stassi, Treasurer Gus McCarthy, current Parks Administration Commissioner Adena Long, Chief of Staff Michael Schnall, Outreach Coordinator Stephanie....all of whom worked through all of the ups and downs and frustrating obstacles of this project. As always I would like to thank the previous board members who saw a vision quite some time ago and to the people who started this group....the ones I remember....Matt, Annmarie, Sara, Dan who were Board Members when I found the dog park. To Mike, Ed, Donna for working with me when I was on the board, and of course Frank Filatro Outreach coordinator that I worked so closely with while I was on the board. Without all of these people this new dog park would not have been possible!! I thank all of you so much for the time you VOLUNTEERED to make this happen. Enjoy the new park!! I hope to be there soon!!! (To anyone I may not have listed, please forgive me.)....:)

people need to be aware of the dog flu . it has killed several dogs . they can get it being 20 feet from an infected dog . keep your dogs safe, get them a flu shot at the vet. dog flu , is same signs that people get. worst place for your dog is being with other dogs , like the dog park so be careful were you bring dog
